Safe Baths for Dogs with Saint Roche Premium Organic Dog Shampoo

One of the things that we need when giving a bath to our dog is shampoo. There is a wide variety of dog shampoos that are out in the market today, and they come in different scents and kinds, allowing you to choose whatever you want for your dog. However, we need to be careful because some of these shampoos may contain chemicals that are harmful for our dogs in the long run.

Saint Roche Premium Organic Dog Shampoo is a recommended shampoo by Pro Dog-a-Holic to its members. It is made from 100% natural ingredients, which makes it gentle on the dog's skin and coat. It is so gentle that it can also be used on puppies, pregnant/nursing dogs, and senior dogs.

Saint Roche Premium Organic Dog Shampoo is absolutely free from chemicals that may be harmful to our dogs, which include parabens, sodium lauryl ether sulfate, and other sulfates. These chemicals may trigger allergic reactions, remove the natural oil of our dog's coat, decrease the life span of our dog, cause baldness, or affect the general well-being of our dog.

Saint Roche Premium Organic Dog Shampoo contains moringa oil extract as a natural antibiotic, eucalyptus oil as a natural pesticide, oatmeal extract as a natural deodorizer, and aloe vera extract for smooth and silky coats.

Pro Dog-a-Holic would also like to thank Saint Roche Premium Organic Dog Shampoo for its constant support of our group and our events.

Giving a Bath to Your Dog

Giving a bath to your dog or to a whole group of dogs can sometimes be a very difficult task. However, you have to do it because it's a necessity to keep them clean and cool, especially during the heat of summer. The task doesn't have to be difficult, though! There are many things that you can do to make the experience easier for both you and your pets.

First, make sure that you have a positive attitude about giving a bath to your dog. If you feel scared or inconvenienced by giving your dog a bath, chances are that he will also feel that same way. A bath is a good thing to keep them smelling nice and healthy - remember that! Once you see baths for your dog as a good thing, then it will become easier for you. You will enter the task thinking that it is an important task, and not something that you are forced to do.

It is a good idea to give your dog a long walk before giving him a bath. This way, your dog will be calmed down and his stress levels reduced. Let him rest for a while after his walk while you collect all that you will nee during the bath - your dog's soap and/or shampoo, towels, and any other thing that you might need so that they will all be within reach once you start.

Begin the bath with a no-nonsense action of slipping a leash on your dog and leading him into the bath area. Without any anxiety from you in the form of baby talk or such, your dog will not feel anxiety as well. Start off by wetting him gently with water, and the increasing the water pressure once he is used to the water. Start from the neck and shoulders down to the end of his body, leaving his face for last. Afterwards, rinse him thoroughly, as shampoo left behind can irritate him.

After the bath, towel dry your dog and/or dry him off gently using a blow dryer. Don't allow him to go outside right away though, as some dogs tend to "re-scent" themselves by rolling in the dirt!

For dogs that enter fashion competitions, or for those that are just "fashionista," the dog would need at least a weekly bath to ensure that their coat remains as smooth and silky as possible. The dog also needs to be brushed right after the bath, to prevent clumps from forming due to the wet fur.

If you don't make a bug fuss about giving a bath to your dog, you will soon realize that it really isn't! You and your dog will begin loving bath time, for sure!

PDH – Nutrience Feeding Program

A month ago, four members of Pro Dog-a-Holic – Patrick, Anna, Regan and Jeng – were selected by Nutrience through the Pic-for-a-Treat PDH contest to participate in a month-long Feeding Program which aims to observe and record the benefits of a complete and exclusive Nutrience diet for our dogs. The dogs that participated were of varying breeds and sizes, including Golden Retrievers, Shih Tzus, Dachshunds, and Aspins.

These are the collective observations of the Nutrience Feeding Program participants.

Physical changes
The weight of the dogs have become heavier, but not due to fat. The muscles of the dogs have become more packed. Jeng’s Aspin, Migo, who was newly rescued and was very thin upon the start of the program, has already developed defined muscles. “Sobrang nag fill-in yung katawan niya,” Jeng said. “Migo looks so much healthier now with Nutrience as his diet.” For the coats of the dogs, “their furs have become shinier and softer,” said Patrick, which was echoed by Anna’s observations.

Behavioral changes
The dogs have become more active and playful with more energy. According to Regan, “Usually I walk all my dogs for a kilometer a day except my bulldog, and when i get home they are all tired and exhausted from walking. But after using Nutrience, they still have more energy to play for 15 to 20 minutes.” Anna noted that her dogs have become more active as well. “Even my fat girl, Daphne (a Shih Tzu), who is really so tamad, now enjoys play time. I can even take her for a walk na. Before, she’d spend most of the day just lying down.”

Continue the Nutrience diet?
All the participants in the Nutrience Feeding Program, with a resounding yes, will continue the Nutrience diet for their dogs beyond the program. The several benefits of Nutrience with “No Bad Anything” makes it an easy decision for all the participants.

Pro Dog-a-Holic, one of the premier dog groups in the Philippines, through its members who participated in the Nutrience Feeding Program, highly recommend the Nutrience dog food brand to all dog owners and breeders.

PDH Beneficiary for March: Hospicio de San Jose

Hospicio de San Jose is the oldest Catholic welfare institution in the Philippines serving people of all ages from infancy to the elderly. Hospicio is a small island almost four hectares surrounded by the Pasig River, accessible thru Ayala Bridge, located right in the center of Manila. It was officially established in 1810 when it opened its doors to the service of the “poor” in Manila. Throughout the proceeding years, Hospicio has been through a lot of survival crises. However, it was able to expand its service to the mentally ill in 1853. The Daughters of Charity were given the administration of Hospicio in 1865, which they hold to this day.

In the late 1800’s, Hospicio developed a “turning cradle” to help mothers, who wanted to remain incognito, have a safe place to “abandon” their babies. This innovative idea to protect infants from being abandoned on the street brought a safe haven for hundreds of children who were eventually placed out for adoption. By early 1980’s the Daughters of Charity realized that giving the mothers an opportunity to discuss alternative solutions to their problem was more productive, thus, the “turning cradle” was replaced with the “Tahan Center” which provided a service to mothers and families in crisis.

Hospicio de San Jose is licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Its residential care services for children and youth, persons with special needs, older persons and people in crisis situations were accredited in March 2007 by the DSWD Standards Bureau. The Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) has given Hospicio a donee status, and allows the institution to receive tax-exempt donations.

7 Ways To Keep Your Dog Hydrated

The scorching heat of summer surely affects us in many ways- we sweat, we easily get tired and we get thirsty. That's why we drink water, fruit juices or energy drinks to re-hydrate ourselves. But this is not the case for dogs, most of the time during exercises and activities they forget that it's time to hydrate themselves and oftentimes, this could be a challenging task for us dog parents. Here are some creative ways and how to keep our dogs hydrated.

  1. Make sure your dog drinks before a walk or an activity.
  2. Take water and a frisbee to use as a water bowl on outings.
  3. Give ice cubes as treats.
  4. Put ice cubes in the water bowl.
  5. Put more than one bowl of water out in another location.
  6. Put a treat in the bottom of the water bowl.
  7. Play water games while teaching to drink from the hose.

As we have so many activities lined up this summer (fun runs, fairs, fashion shows and so much more!), we must always keep in mind the safety and well-being of our dogs at all times.
